What does Galerio do?

Galerio gives you a comprehensive set of tools to allow you to create an art-focused website, in any medium. Whether you have an art gallery, a book shop, a record label or are an independent creator, Galerio give you the means to create your own website geared towards displaying your work, keeping it organised, and selling it to the world.

It does this by extending the default WordPress install to add several new post types and taxonomies, as well as extending some existing ones to add extra features.

These are the main additional post types Galerio adds to WordPress:

  • Articles – for long-form discussion and writing.
  • Collections – to group various artist and works into a cohesive presentation, such as a gallery exhibition, or a musical production.
  • Profiles – where you can define individuals and groups of creatives, add bios and links to further resources.
  • Works – for deeper representation of creative works, from individual artworks to book series.

Additionally, Galerio extends these existing WordPress post types to add extra functionality:

  • Media – to add metadata information, including dimensions, duration and medium.
  • User – to integrate WordPress’ user management system into Galerio’s Profiles.

Several taxonomy types are also introduced to allow for deep categorisation of the new post types:

  • Collection categories – to group Collections, e.g. by exhibition type.
  • Profile groups – to categorise profile pages, e.g. into teams or cohorts.
  • Labels – a generic tagging taxonomy to identify artworks, e.g. by genre or style.
  • Mediums – a tagging taxonomy for categorising artworks by form/medium, e.g. oil painting, music.
  • Roles – to assign roles to users and profiles based on your own organisation’s structure.
